Nearly all of it \u2013$15.5 billion \u2013 came from advertising sales. In the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abc.xyz\/investor\/news\/earnings\/2015\/Q1_google_earnings\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first quarter of 2015<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Google took in $17.3 billion in revenue, up 12% year over year. With few restrictions, AdWords can be utilized by businesses of nearly any size and budget.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The brilliance behind AdWords is its simplicity: AdWords\u2019 goal is to create the shortest path between the searcher and what they are actively searching for. And, as it turns out, giving someone what they want, when they want it, usually results in a conversion.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>So How Does It Work?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main facets of an AdWords campaign are keywords, ads, and landing pages.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Keywords<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the terms searched in Google that can trigger ads. Often comprised of a city, state, and subject. (e.g. Austin TX veterinarian)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Ads<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are delivered as a text based platform, which is found at the top and right side of the Google search results page. Google text ads are comprised of a header, two lines of ad copy, and a page link.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Landing pages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the destination page that the searcher lands on when they click on your ad\u2019s text.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By default, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/adwords\/answer\/2497976?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=3121763\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google uses a Cost Per Click<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> model for simple campaigns which means you only pay for the ad when someone clicks on it. How much you pay for a click, however, can vary greatly by location, industry, and quality of the campaign funnel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most important thing to remember when creating a campaign is to make sure the three phases of a campaign match as closely as possible. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/good-ad-in-google-adwords\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An example of a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bad <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">campaign<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> would be to create a keyword list and ad copy for grooming, and then send the searcher to a landing pages for pet dental health or veterinary acupuncture.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Caution Ahead!<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As effective as AdWords campaigns can be in helping your business find potential customers, there can be many pitfalls if your campaign is done incorrectly. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From overspending on budget to simply forgetting about your campaign and letting it lapse, there is a lot that can go wrong; making it important to have guidance in the setup and maintenance of your AdWords endeavors.
