Sure, we\u2019ve all heard of Facebook \u2013 but what about all those Twitters and Snapchats? There are many more secondary social media platforms than just Facebook, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses. While these platforms might not have the granular <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/keep-it-clicking-click-through-rate-explained\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">control over ad targeting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Facebook does, they each serve a particular niche and can be great complement to Facebook, especially when reaching younger demographics.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s look a bit more closely at three additional social media platforms and how to best use them to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/category\/social-media-marketing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reach your intended audience<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the content they crave.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Vets of Instagram<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instagram launched quite a few years after Facebook \u2013 in 2010 to be exact \u2013 and was designed to eschew the text-heavy Facebook posts of the day in favor of a more visual media. As you can probably guess, it has been (and remains) phenomenally successful and paved the way for the shift to the picture and video content we so frequently enjoy on social media today. Facebook actually bought Instagram for a cool $300 million, two years after it launched. Not a bad payday for 2 years work, eh?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given this partnership, Instagram and Facebook work closely together. If you have Instagram as a secondary social media account, you should absolutely tie your Instagram and Facebook pages together at your earliest opportunity. This will allow you to employ the same ad targeting you use on Facebook to reach a more visual audience. Keep in mind, though, that Instagram ads are primarily visual and cannot include direct links to content. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reason, think of Instagram as a media platform for advertising with brand awareness ads to keep your name in front of prospective clients and affiliated with interesting content. While you can use the text field to encourage viewers to click the link in your Instagram bio, your best bet is throwing a few dollars behind that adorable photo of that puppy after his dental exam.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">#Twitter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twitter has had an interesting past, full of failed buyouts and shifting strategy. Twitter was founded in 2006, making it almost the oldest of the bunch, outside of Facebook and not counting good ol\u2019 MySpace \u2013 and no, you shouldn\u2019t go anywhere near MySpace in 2021, in case you\u2019re wondering. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twitter was created to build content that is both easy to discover and digest, which is one of the reasons it was responsible for the hashtag and instituted a strict character limit per-post of 140 characters (which recently doubled to 280). This allows quick, direct thoughts that can be perused much faster and generated with less effort.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How can you take advantage of this word-focused version of secondary social media accounts, you ask? Twitter is great at letting you rapidly share nifty tidbits of info with your followers. If you\u2019re having an Open House, why not tweet fun photos as they\u2019re taken? If you\u2019re staffing an event or attending something, tweet at the event itself (by prefacing your post with @) or find a relevant hashtag (prefaced with #) to include in your post. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth the use of characters to use this social media platform for marketing, we can assure you, and is an incredible (and free) way to get your posts discovered. Lastly, it\u2019s very important to post any and all blog content to Twitter, since Google tends to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/veterinary-blogging\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">notice your blog links<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> faster when it discovers them via Twitter posts.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Google My Business<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s no secret that Google powers the internet. You also might be aware that Facebook and Google aren\u2019t on the best of terms with each other, given the constantly-waging war for the same user\u2019s eyeballs and search share. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Google \u2013 and ranking in Google search \u2013 is entirely <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/beyond-indigo-is-now-a-google-partner\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">its own discipline<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Google still has plenty of social utility. While Google+ was tough to consider a success by any stretch of the imagination, Google overhauled its use as a secondary social media account through a renewed focus on targeted posts via Google Business.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your Google My Business page is important for a host of reasons. This is where any user will probably interact with your brand if they <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/5-things-veterinary-hospitals-google-adwords\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">search for you on Google<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Think of this as your landing page on the internet \u2013 you want clear imagery, virtual tours of your practice, a clear and updated Maps listing, and accurate links to your website and other related social media. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You also want to regularly make business posts pointing interested users to website content such as blogs or service overview pages. These posts make a great, quick way to convert business or reach more people with your in-house information.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Secondary Social Media Accounts for Veterinary Marketing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While there are other platforms \u2013 LinkedIn, Snapchat, and Pinterest come to mind \u2013 these tend not to be used as frequently by your target groups. However, each has their purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/beyondindigopet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><b>Pinterest<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is still used (and can be a great catalog<\/span> of photo content) by DIY types, but it appears to be waning in popularity these days, especially after a failed attempt at resonating with a more male-skewed demographic. <\/li><li>Snapchat can be great for raising mobile-only brand awareness among younger people \u2013 but let\u2019s be real, 18-21-year-olds<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aren\u2019t paying the bills at your practice.<\/span><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/2296618\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><b>LinkedIn<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be a great way of reaching applicants if your practice has a job opening, but doesn\u2019t do a great job in reaching prospective clients. However, if you are a referral hospital, this platform could be worth a closer look.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the bulk of your social media efforts should still be squarely focused on Facebook \u2013 especially when it comes to spending your ad dollars \u2013 these other media platforms for advertising can still provide a great channel for reaching your current and prospective clients <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondindigopets.com\/blog\/3-temptations-to-avoid-veterinary-social-media\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">if leveraged correctly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure you reach your Instagram audience with visual-only, brand awareness ads. Tweet links to your most recent blogs and make frequent, targeted tweets during events.
