May Pet Holidays for Your Social Media Strategy

Posting regularly on your business social media platforms helps you increase engagement, reach new followers, and share your brand. If you’re having some trouble planning out your next batch of social media posts, we’re here for you. Our guide to May pet holidays is just what you need to add a little more oomph to your springtime social media strategy.
Be Kind to Animals Month
While we believe in being nice to animals all year long, May is a month dedicated to spreading awareness about the best way to treat animals with thoughtfulness, respect, and kindness. This May, create posts that help people learn what they can do to make the world a better place for our animal friends. This can include information about:
- Adopting a pet from a local shelter
- Only visiting zoos and aquariums that are certified as safe for animals
- Buying products from brands with humane animal practices
From adoption success stories to blogs that inform pet owners how to find companies that are working to protect animals, there is plenty of social media content to share that honors Be Kind to Animals Month.
Chip Your Pet Month

It’s never a bad idea to remind your followers (and local pet owners who might stumble upon your pages) about the importance of microchipping their pets. You might want to make a monthly graphic template that makes it easy to swap out images and text for a monthly reminder about microchipping and preventives. Since May is Chip Your Pet Month, though, you should create some more robust content about the topic. You could make a video that showcases how simple and safe it is to insert a microchip (just be sure you have the pet owner’s permission first). Write a blog about the importance of microchipping a pet and how it can help if you get separated. Create and post about a clinic special that includes a discounted price for microchipping when visiting for another service. If you can get pet owners in the door, they are more likely to keep coming back.
Pet Sitter Safety Month
Pet Sitter Safety Month provides a unique opportunity for a lot of content creation to help your social media strategy. On top of demonstrating how to properly pick a pet sitter, you can create long and short content pieces about how to safely care for your pets when you are not home. This can include infographics on what you need to have readily available for whoever is watching your pet, local resources about boarding and daycare services, and a checklist on what to look for in a pet sitter.
