The ABCs of Competing with Corporate Veterinary Hospitals

Dog tugging on a rope.

Competing with corporate veterinary hospitals can seem like an overwhelming task to an individual practice owner. Without the resources (and budgets) of huge corporate entities, how can you possibly compete? Well, the answer is easier than you might think. With our guide to the ABCs of competing with corporate veterinary hospitals, your practice can truly stand out from the crowd.

A for Authenticity

When it comes to competing with huge corporations, one of the strongest tools you have is authenticity. Corporate hospitals tend to all blend together into the overarching brand of the corporation. But this means that they lose their individuality, which, in turn, makes them feel inauthentic. Pet owners can tell when a practice is lacking authenticity. This makes them feel more guarded with a veterinary hospital, and makes it hard for them to completely trust the veterinary team.

When a hospital values authenticity, however, that makes a big difference to the pet owners who visit. Authentic branding and content creation puts pet owners at ease with you. They can feel how much you care about their pets and their health. They can see how authentically you practice veterinary medicine, which makes them feel safe. This safety enables them to put their trust in you and your team, and, because of this, they are more likely to turn into long-term clients.

B for Branding

As we briefly mentioned above, corporate hospitals tend to lack originality and individuality in their branding. Branding should reflect a hospital’s values and what they provide. Everything from your logo to your website and the interior of your hospital provides the opportunity to show the world who you are and what you offer. Since corporates tend to share their branding and marketing, there is very little that makes each hospital unique.

You can use your branding to demonstrate so much about your practice and your values before you even have a conversation with a potential client. A pet owner can look at your website, check out your social media pages, or read a blog, and know exactly who you are. Branding is another way for you to demonstrate authenticity in your veterinary practice and showcase the essential services you provide for local animals.

C for Community

No practice can be successful without community support. Even corporate hospitals that have huge budgets will go bust without the approval of local pet owners. Community engagement is a seriously important tool when it comes to competing with corporate veterinary hospitals. Both online and off-line engagement get people interested in your hospital. It humanizes your practice, and makes people interested in who you are and what you offer.

Community engagement can come in many forms. From engaging social media posts to hosting events in your hospital, interacting with your community is a way to tie together the ABCs of competing with corporate veterinary hospitals.
