February Social Media Ideas for Veterinarians

February often gets a bad rap. It’s usually dark, it’s often cold, and it feels like a letdown after the excitement of the holiday season. With a little bit of pre-planning, however, you can ensure your social media is full of enough life and personality to add a little shine to even the coldest, shortest February days.
Focus on Those Pearly Whites
In the veterinary world, February’s biggest claim to fame is Pet Dental Health Month. Now is the time to get local pet owners educated about the importance of pet dental health and how it can affect overall health. Since it spans the whole month, you can create a variety of social media campaigns dedicated to different elements of pet dental health, including:
- Information on any dental specials you’ll run in your hospital
- Helpful videos on caring for pet’s teeth and gums at home
- Educational posts about the importance of dental health for pets
- Asking pet owners to share photos of their pets’ best smiles
Educate and Inspire

February is also known as “Dog Training Education Month,” “Spay/Neuter Awareness Month,” and “Responsible Pet Owners Month.” This gives you plenty of opportunities to share educational posts on your social media pages. Dog training, spay/neutering, and owning a pet responsibly are all important aspects of creating a safe and happy space for an animal. Consider doing some of the following types of posts to highlight these topics:
- A series of videos showing pet owners how to do basic dog training
- Educational posts about the importance of spaying or neutering an animal (this can include health benefits, statistics about the number of pets in shelters, and even information on how to adopt)
- An infographic listing some of the most important things to remember on how to safely own a pet
- A few blog posts about how each topic can shape a pet’s life
While social media is often an outlet for fun, lighthearted posts, taking advantage of opportunities to educate your followers helps you become a thought leader in your area. When people know they can turn to you for accurate information, they are more likely to seek you out when they need it.
Add Some Lighthearted Posts
February is a little short on pet holidays, but you can make an effort to highlight the ones it does have. Consider making some lighthearted posts in honor of the following:

- Feb. 2: National Brown Dog Day
- Feb. 3: Doggy Date Night
- Feb. 14: Valentine’s Day
- Feb. 20: National Love Your Pet Day
- Feb. 22: Walking the Dog Day
- Feb. 23: National Dog Biscuit Day
Lighthearted posts can encourage more people to interact with your page, which, in turn, can get your page shown to even more people in your area.
